American snack Mondelez International released their FY2024 earnings results. Revenue rose 1.2% YoY to USD 36.4 billion, driven by Organic Net Revenue growth of 4.3% (driven by pricing, offset by volume/mix), incremental net revenue from the acquisition of Chinese cakes and pastries maker Evirth in November 2024, which offset the negative impact from currency headwinds, and the divestiture of the gum business. By geography, revenues rose by roughly 3% in Europe, Asia, Middle East, and Africa, but declined roughly 1.5% in North America and Latin America. Gross margins rose to 39.1%, from 38.2% in 2023, while operating margins rose to 17.4% from 15.3% in FY 2023, driven by favorable acquisition integration costs, hedging gains, and cost efficiencies, partially offset by higher intangible asset impairment charges and ERP system implementation costs. Management projections for FY 2025 are mixed; Net Organic Revenue Growth is projected to grow approximately 5%, but adjusted EPS is projected to decline 10% YoY on a constant currency basis, primarily due to unprecedented cocoa inflation. Free Cash Flows are expected to be around USD 3 billion. The outlook excludes potential headwinds from possible U.S. tariff impositions. In the highly competitive chocolate confectionery category, Mondelez maintains a strong market position with its key brands. Cadbury continues to lead with double digit market shares in key regions such as the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Milka holds a dominant position in Poland, Marabou leads with a double digit market share in Sweden, and is the second-biggest player in Finland. While Toblerone, a mass-premium brand, maintains a smaller market share, it remains a significant player in markets such as Finland, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR China, and Malaysia.
